CM – Halep and Kontaveit move into the finals in Romania – NBC Sports


CLUJ-NAPOCA, Romania – Simona Halep reached a WTA final for the 12th time in a row after beating Ukrainian teen Marta Kostyuk 6-0, 6-1 and a title match against Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit in the Transylvania Open.

Kontaveit, who won the Kremlin Cup in Moscow last week, extended their winning streak to nine games by beating Rebecca Peterson of Sweden 6-3, 6-2.

Halep had to im Fending off a breakpoint in the opening game, but then had full control and only conceded the first game of the second set when the 55th-placed Kostyuk was able to hold the serve.

The top-seeded Romanian is 3-0 against the second-placed Kontaveit and has Not a set lost in these games, including a 6-1, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open last year.

Halep, who is aiming for her 23rd WTA title, has already won two tournaments in Romania – 2014 and 2016 in Bucharest on sand.
