The US may not get an LC300 Land Cruiser, but it will be getting a flagship luxury equivalent very soon.
North America will not be getting the new LC300 generation Land Cruiser any time soon. The top of the Toyota range sold poorly here, sitting in an odd spot between the company’s simpler SUVs and the premium offerings of the Lexus sub-brand. However, Lexus still leaves plenty of room for the Land Cruiser concept.
This is our first look at the Lexus LX 600, a top of the line SUV that continues three decades of Land Cruiser-based tradition. The teaser photo released by the brand today only shows the back, but shows some of the features that set the new LX apart from the current Land Cruiser. Underneath is a Jeep-like, continuous taillight structure with an indentation for a Lexus word mark, in which the company has historically placed a logo, a new design element that can also be seen on this year’s new generation of the NX SUV.
A short teaser posted on Twitter shows a few more angles, but these fly by quickly and seem to reflect Land Cruiser’s source material much more accurately. The odd angles reveal wide front fenders and geometric wheel openings, the hallmarks of the Toyota LC300 Land Cruiser already revealing.
The full LC300-based LX 600 will be unveiled on October 13 at 12:30 p.m. ET. If those five days are too long a wait, there’s no time to read how the latest Land Cruiser builds on decades of history.
