CM – Holy Smokes, I think Replaced could be my game at E3 2021

Microsoft’s Xbox and Bethesda Games E3 showcase was full of amazing looking games, but what caught my eye the most was Sad Cat Studios’ stunning debut, Replaced. It’s a 2.5D sci-fi action platformer set in a dark, dystopian city, but thank god it has the most beautiful pixel art I’ve ever seen.

It’s no secret that pixel art games are getting more beautiful every day – just look at the incredible backbone that came out the other day – but Replaced is on a whole different level, with great effects, lighting and some incredibly peppy animation. Check out the trailer below and see if you don’t fall in love with it right away.

In Replaced, you play as REACH, an AI trapped in a human body against its will in an alternate America 1980s. As you struggle to adapt to your new way of life on the atmospheric, neon-lit streets of Phoenix City, you will delve deep into the corrupt masters of society. Outlaws rage this city after a catastrophic nuclear incident, which means a lot to step into the game’s « free flow action battle » and « cinematic platforming ».

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the history of the game, although I can imagine that finding out how you are trapped inside this human body will undoubtedly be one of the many secrets that you’ll unravel as the game progresses Game. For now, though, I just want to know what kind of artistic wizardry this Belarusian studio worked to make Replaced look so darn spectacular. Just look at those windswept trees, those glittering, rain-soaked streets, that flowing battle choreography. It’s poetry in motion, so my apologies while I watch the trailer a dozen more times.

Replaced will hit Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox Game Pass sometime next year in 2022. Put it on your wish list. I have the feeling that this will be something very special.

E3 2021 will take place from June 12th to 15th, with other events around it. For more really useful information on the entire virtual shebang, check out our E3 stream schedule and visit our E3 2021 hub to keep up to date with the news.
