CM – Hudson Valley residents are said to have been among more than 40 fatal victims of the Israeli holy place stampede


According to reports, at least three Hudson Valley natives were among the dozen killed in Israel when a large crowd of holiday worshipers went wild.

On Friday April 30th, a Jewish religious broke out Festival attended by tens of thousands in Mount Meron, wreaking havoc in which more than 45 people were killed and more than 100 more hospitalized.

According to reports, 33-year-old Rockland County’s Shragi Gestetner was among the dead , formerly Airmont, Yosef Amram Tauber, 18 years old, from Monsey, and Eliezer Josef, 26 years old, from Kiryas Joel, from Orange County.

The onslaught occurred during the festivities of Lag BaOmer on Mount Meron, where tens of thousands of people, mostly Orthodox Jews, gather every year to honor Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai at his grave.

Overall, it was estimated that there were approximately 100,000 attendees during the celebration on the Friday before the chaos broke out. The site was reportedly prepared to handle roughly a quarter of that number.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday May 2nd will be a day of national mourning before blood donated to the victims of the Stampede is.

At least 45 people died as a result of the onslaught, several others were in critical condition, and dozen were hospitalized with various injuries.

« I am broken from the tragedy that broke out overnight happened on Mount Meron in Israel, « said Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York. « The loss of life as thousands celebrated a happy holiday is devastating. »

« New York sends its thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims as well as to the people of Israel and the Jewish community worldwide who are affected by this terrible incident. »
