In a brief statement shared on their social networks yesterday afternoon, the band shared with fans with that they broke up.
« We’d like to thank everyone who was part of the trip and especially you for being such a dedicated fan base, » they wrote. « Izzi will continue to release her own music, you can follow her @isabellamanfredi »
The band broke in 2013 with the ubiquitous hit « Is This How You Feel? » Through and followed with two albums – Blue Planet Eyes in 2014 and Girlhood in 2017.
Singer Isabella Manfredi spoke openly yesterday about the band’s split at Triple J, saying that the breakdown of her relationship with guitarist Jack Moffitt and an ‘antiquated record deal’ they couldn’t get out of and didn’t make any money on, the case were the two main reasons they split up.
« If someone has ever been through a breakup, it’s really difficult to be with that person, « she told Drive hosts Hobba and Hing. “There was a dynamic there that was really unhealthy, which in the end just meant that I had to get out of there. To me the band was my family and I was so dedicated. But for my heart and my music I had to take myself away and start over.
« I want [you] to know that I personally did everything I could to keep the band together … it wasn’t creative in the end Decision; It was a personal and financial decision, and they are realities that we have all had to face for the past 12 months. «
The announcement came at the same time as Manfredi premiered her first solo single, this morning ended up in all streaming services. Dubbed « Jealousy, » it was recorded in Sydney with in-demand producer Chris Collins, and is cut from the same stuff, The Preatures, though it’s more pop-based.
« ‘Jealousy’ was the very first song that I wrote in London with producers Rich Cooper and Johnny Latimer (although there was a short time in Berlin with Anton Newcombe – another story), « said Manfredi. “I did the demo vocals in a take or two and they are what you hear on the record. It was one of those essential and immediate writing experiences that I couldn’t tell where I ended and the others began, and I’m really grateful to Johnny and Rich, the masters of their craft, for helping me get out of the shock to shape and anger that I felt in a slim, mean pop song that day. “
She recruited Michael Di Francesco (touch sensitive), Kirin J Callinan and Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint for the track – which you can hear below.
