NEW YORK: Wimbledon winner Ashleigh Barty from Australia and last year’s French Open winner, Iga Swiatek from Poland, defeated challenging opponents and made it into the third round of the US Open. < Number 7 seeded Swiatek was in big trouble before beating world number 74, Fiona Ferro of France, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0 in just over two hours to reaching the third round of the US Open for the second straight season.
