CANBERRA: Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns, who is wheelchair-bound, says he is « very lucky to be alive » three months after a medical emergency put him on life support. The 51-year-old is currently recovering from a stroke that left him paralyzed to the hip after several complicated operations.

“We don’t know what will happen in the future. I don’t know if I’ll go, I don’t know if I’ll get up. But I can stand. I can go. The only option is to keep going. The thing is, I’m not just lucky enough to be (alive). I’m very lucky, ”Cairns was quoted as saying by the Canberra Times.
