Iman Shumpert made history in « Dancing With the Stars » last night as the first NBA star to take home the coveted Mirror Ball championship trophy.
The baller who last played for the Brooklyn Nets, and his dance partner Daniella Karagach beat celebrity finalists JoJo Siwa, Cody Rigsby and Amanda Kloots.
Shumpert and Karagach performed two routines during the show’s finale, one of which was a freestyle dance to a mash-up owned by Missy Elliott’s « Lose Control » with Ciara and Fat Man Scoop. The couple donned royal blue tracksuits, along with white socks and all-white Air Jordan 1 high-tops for freestyle dancing.
During their other show, a cha-cha and foxtrot fusion, Shumpert wore a flashy animal -Print and a floral patterned silk shirt with white pants and white dance shoes.
When it was time to get dressed to see who won, they morphed into dazzling looks, with Shumpert wearing a shimmering gold suit jacket, which complemented Karagach’s sparkling silver and gold dress.
While the basketball star may have been viewed as an outsider this season, he wowed everyone with his dancing skills. Last week, his appearance on Kanye West’s song « Dark Fantasy, » which features his wife Teyana Taylor’s vocals, went viral on Twitter.
Speaking to Good Morning America about the Tuesday morning win, he said, « It was literally great to be a part of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ – all the people who had it in front of me and who even want me. The show is just … that was the best nod I could have. ”
