Hello and welcome to the live coverage of day 4 of the one-off test between Indian women and English women from Bristol County Ground. This is Lavanya Lakshminarayanan, and I’m going to walk you through the process today.
That catch from Brunt to dismiss Shafali Verma. Well done by England in the field.
36 overs in the Indian innings. Punam Raut will want to consolidate, but Deepti Sharma looks very fluid this morning. Brilliant from the youngster.
31.5 BEATEN ON THE PAD, PUNAM IS RAUT. Does that go away from the leg stump? Knight Reviews. The bat does not participate, but it moves away from the leg stump. England loses a review
31.3 FOUR. Punam Raut early fluency here. She got on her hindfoot here and knocked it away to the cover limit. Ecclestone was a little sketchy today with her line and length. Discipline from its end will be key for India.
29.6 HEARD AGAIN. SHAFALI IS OUT. Ecclestone gives her a full litter, but she’s not that well connected and Brunt comes in for a brilliant catch in the long run. Punam Raut is now.
STAT: Most runs in a debut match: Shafali finished third on the overall list with 159 runs in this match. STAT: Shafali Verma is the first woman in history to score three sixes in a test match. 29.1 SIX. Right over the bowler’s head. I love this shot of Shafali. Throughout the game, she has struck with such authority, ignoring the stature that Ecclestone also has on the stage of the world. India’s intent is evident here.
28.6 OH GOOD BALL! Shrubsole is disappointed with a missed LBW there. But what counts is the next ball. Nice cover ride from Deepti Sharma. What a way to rub things into shrubsole. I love how Deepti Sharma penetrates the scheme of things.
Goal of the session: eliminate the deficit without losing too many wickets. Shafali’s personal goal – to achieve this century. Does the outer field look a little damp there?
5 MINUTES TO WALK. Ecclestone has managed to tweak something and will hope to make some early forays if she manages to improve on those lengths. Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole had a largely normal game [despite those two brilliant deliveries from Brunt yesterday and Shrubsole’s T20 ballistics at the end of the first innings]. They too want to join the party. Can England cause a collapse again? Getting Shafali out will be key. Let’s see how it works. Prepare for a crisp fourth day.

2:45 p.m.: In the one-off test against England, India is 82 runs behind, with Shafali beating on 55, along with his debutant Deepti Sharma, who is unbeaten at 18. The duo defied the English bowlers for 20 overs, adding 54 runs in the post-lunch session when early tea was called due to rain. The session after lunch itself started 30 minutes late because of the rain. England toiled to no avail throughout the second session. The other prelude, Smriti Mandhana, was sacked for just eight runs in the morning session as India wants to save the Test with nine second innings wickets in hand in the four-day game.

Verma, who hit 96 in her first innings, continued her formidable form when she hit six more limits in the second session.
This is only the second time India has been asked to continue in women’s testing, the last time against Australia in 2006. Shafali Verma is here to change the course of history if you stick to her reckless intent To achieve runs. Let’s quickly recap what we saw on day 3 between showers in Bristol. Cloudy day in Bristol but as long as it doesn’t rain there is no reason why we shouldn’t see a full game day.
