London: England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes hopes his operated left index finger won’t cause him any problems in the marquee test series against India after going through « ridiculous pain » at the recent ODIs against Pakistan.
Stokes will play for Northern Superchargers in the early rounds of The Hundred before joining the English squad in Nottingham on August 4th for the five Tests against India.
« I have a little break now, playing the steroids Should give time to take effect and allow me to play in the hundred and then against India painlessly, « Stokes wrote in the Daily Mirror.
» The plan is still to play in the hundred, though everyone needs to be as careful as possible when it comes to COVID. I know the ECB is working hard to get this right.
« Hopefully my finger won’t be a problem when the India test series is over because this is a huge series where we are all desperately trying to performing well, « he told Stokes.
He played six T20 Blast games for Durham in June and early July, but shouldn’t be in either the ODI or T20I legs of the Pakistan Tour until one A series of COVID-19 cases in the English camp forced the entire squad to self-isolate.
The English & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had no choice but to summon Stokes and hand him over the captaincy at the last minute.
« It was a completely unexpected series of games for me and the truth is that under normal circumstances I would never have played because my left index finger was so painful, » he wrote.
« The operation was a success after breaking them on IPL, but it was still so painful. Sometimes you just have to grin and take it, and the captain of England is one of those reasons. «
Stokes added, » Sometimes you just have to grin and take it, and the captain of England is one of those reasons.
« The finger has structurally healed, but the pain was just ridiculous where it should be, so now I’ve had an injection to ease it for the rest of the summer. »
