The 32-year-old, who won all-round gold in 2012 and 2016, was on the starting list for parallel bars announced on Friday.
Last month he qualified for the horizontal bar competition, but did not make the decision due to a shoulder injury to defend his all-around title.
Uchimura, who now feels like a « fossil », has won seven Olympic medals, including three gold, as well as 10 world championships in his brilliant career.
Qualification is on bars on Saturday, with Uchimura being one of five Japanese gymnasts to apply for a place in the final.
