CM – Jason Day won’t play a Sectional Qualifier if he’s not in the US Open Field

The clock is ticking for Jason Day as he attempts to qualify for the US Open.

The former number 1 in the world has to assert himself in the top 60 of the world rankings at his next starts, otherwise he will not be at the US Open next month. He said on Wednesday that he will not play the 36-hole qualifier on June 7th due to sponsorship.

After making the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship – his sixth consecutive event without a top 10 – Missed, Day fell from 59th to 62nd in the world rankings. The top 60 after the PGA Championship and The Memorial (June 3-6) next week will automatically qualify for the US Open. Day said he has a scheduled event for NetJets the Monday after Memorial and intends to participate in it rather than in the two-round qualifier.

« I’m not going to qualify – I have to earn my way to this position « said Day on Wednesday at the AT&T Byron Nelson. « It’s nothing against qualifying for a tournament.
