John Legend claimed that designer Michael Costello and his embattled wife Chrissy Teigen « invented a DM exchange » after allegations of bullying against the model.
« Chrissy apologized for her public tweets, but after hers Sorry, Mr. Costello fabricated a DM exchange between them. This exchange was made up, completely fake, never happened, « tweeted Legend, 42, on Friday.
The singer, who has been married to Teigen, 35, since 2013, added: » To be honest, I don’t know why anyone DMs would pretend to fit into this narrative, but that’s exactly what happened. «
» I encourage anyone who breathlessly spreads this lie to keep the same level of energy in correcting the record, « Legend continued. < Teigen's rep also alleged the DMs were fake in a Business Insider report released Thursday. The story pointed to “technical inconsistencies” in Costello's 2014 screenshots, with reporter Kat Tenbarge stating that the DMs may have been “tampered with”. Tenbarge also wrote in the report that the screenshot shared by Costello, 38, did not have a verified blue check mark next to Teigen's name.
Instagram launched a review in late 2014 that could potentially suggest the screenshots were recorded this year. In addition, the blue and purple messages in the recordings became part of the platform in 2020.
There is also a video chat icon on the news, Business Insider reported, although its use wasn’t available until 2018. The outlet also noted a profile photo that Teigen changed « no later than December 2016 ».
This week, Costello, who participated in Season 8 of « Project Runway » in 2010, claimed after an allegedly Photoshop-edited Instagram comment in which he appeared to be using a racial slur in being blacklisted by Teigen and stylist Monica Rose. He said he felt suicidal.
Costello’s allegations against Teigen came the same day the cookbook author returned to Instagram and made a long apology to Medium for her previous actions.
« There’s just no excuse for my past terrible tweets. They don’t deserve my goals. Nobody does. A lot of them needed empathy, kindness, understanding and support, not my meanness masquerading as some kind of casual, edgy humor, ”she wrote.
Courtney Stodden claimed in May that Teigen bullied and told them about the internet , let them kill themselves. Teigen, who is married to John Legend, publicly apologized to Stodden, 26, earlier this month, but the reality star said he has never heard of Teigen privately.
On Monday, Costello shared a series of alleged Instagram Messages from Teigen telling his followers, « For the past 7 years, I’ve lived with deep, unhealed trauma. » In his post, Costello stated that he allegedly made a public comment from Teigen on his in 2014 Instagram page in which he « accused [him] of being a racist ».
The designer claimed of Teigen: « She apparently formed her own opinion of me based on a Photoshoped comment floating around the internet that has now been found wrong by Instagram and has since been removed. »
Business Insider also reported Thursday that Instagram is not removing false information and that the misinformation policy began in 2019.
« The fact that Chrissy Teigen’s team is desperate to prove that the DMs and tries to discredit Michael Costello, a victim of trauma and bullying by Chrissy Teigen both online and offline, confirms that she remains the same bully despite her public apology. “Was the statement.
Costello’s rep also responded to Legend’s tweets, saying in part, “John was complicit in watching Chrissy harass many other people online and offline for years. We’re not at all surprised by his biased support for his wife. ”
Earlier this week, Costello was also the focus of a separate cyberbullying accusation from Leona Lewis. Costello responded to the allegations shortly afterwards and the 36-year-old « Bleeding Love » singer accepted his apology.
« Michael, thank you [sic] for your apology, I wish you healing and that you feel better. Today is a new day, spread love, « Lewis posted on her Instagram story on Wednesday.
