HAVEN, Wisconsin – Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas’s US team lost the hole and the match, but that may not be what the people of the first group on the Whistling Straits course at the Ryder Cup are looking for remember on Friday.

Spieth needed his team in the foursome match (where players take turns) to save Par and the match on the 17th hole with dunes falling 20 feet below the green plain and in Falling towards Lake Michigan.

Spieth checked the shot, but the opposing European pair Jon Rahm and Sergio García were gone – that is, if Rahm made his putt, they would win the hole and the match. He missed what made Spieth have to play with it.

While Spieth worked out a position on the hill, Rahm and García took turns peering over the edge of the cliff at him. Finally the crowd laughed, which Spieth couldn’t see when they saw his head jump up as he jumped to look at the green.

Then he took a nice shot within five feet of the cup, sort of while he lost his balance and stumbled toward the lake. Don’t worry, he stayed dry after 20 paces of recovery, but didn’t even see the result.

However, Thomas missed the putt and Rahm and García took the hole to win the match by 3 and 1 to win.

“I would like to say I don’t think I exaggerated this fall. You know how steep it is. When I started moving, I thought I had to move until I found a flat spot, « said Spieth.

» It’s one of those recordings that you practice as a kid for fun and that you ultimately do don’t want to have. And the odds of it going there could be a thousand balls rolling off the green and it won’t stay where it was.

« I hit like a 52-degree because a 60 could have gone over the back of my head. I just tried to flip it right under it and hit it as hard as possible, as high as I could. It ended right on a crown where it was a tough putt and I think it might be a first in wins situation and we just got a really tough break there. ”

García may be more than each other appreciate an unlikely recovery. After all, he hit the global stage by pitching behind a tree at the 1999 PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club at the age of 19. After Spieth’s shot landed, Garcia had no choice but to applaud the effort.

« I clapped, » he said. “I was – I was really scared that he would get hurt because of the logs that were there, and it was very close to the wall. So I was hoping he wouldn’t get injured, but he made an incredible shot. I didn’t think he had a chance on the green. ”
