CM – Juniper Security Director Cloud enables organizations to manage the transition to SASE

Juniper’s new Security Director cloud platform can « really reduce the gap that can arise in an architectural transformation, » said Samantha Madrid, Juniper’s vice president of security, to CRN.

After a year of new IT demands triggered by the move to the cloud and the remote work trend, Juniper Networks is helping organizations secure access and ensure that users, applications and infrastructure remain protected, regardless of where the users are.

The network giant launched a centralized connectivity and security management platform for companies and sales partners on Wednesday: Security Director Cloud. The new platform will help companies adopt a Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) architecture on their own timeline and create policies that users and applications can follow regardless of their location, according to the Sunnyvale, California-based company.

« We designed [Security Director Cloud] as a cloud-native offering that not only allows customers to support their existing security infrastructure with Juniper, but also uses cloud deployment to manage those policies, » he told Samantha Madrid, Vice President of Security Business and Strategy at Juniper.

Multi-cloud environments require a robust management portal, said Mark Sollazo, CEO and co-founder of SynerComm Inc., an Elite Juniper partner.

SynerComm, a 31-year-old security-focused solutions provider based in Brookfield, Wisconsin, works with many customers who intentionally use multiple cloud providers for their hybrid cloud strategies that include a mix of public and private clouds.

« We’re seeing a lot of movement in a very diverse, hybrid cloud environment, but then [customers] don’t know how to handle it, especially when it comes to securing it, » said Sollazo. Customers often struggle with knowing where their channel partner’s security responsibility ends and where the public cloud provider’s responsibility begins, or how to test hybrid environments, he added.

What is special about Security Director Cloud is that companies can automatically apply existing security policies to cloud environments, regardless of whether they apply to users, applications or infrastructures. « If I make a change or add a different retail location, these guidelines will automatically be applied, » said Madrid. « It really reduces the void that can arise when you do an architectural transformation. »

Security Director Cloud is compatible with third-party network and security technologies through APIs. According to Juniper Networks, Security Director Cloud Insights is a feature that can improve the visibility of attacks across the network by aggregating threat detection information from third-party products.

The newest platform gives Juniper an edge, Madrid said, as it can provide unified policy management for physical, virtual and cloud-based security technologies. « We’re removing this [management] burden by making it very, very simple to manage and in line with what companies already have, » she said.

Rami Rahim, CEO of Juniper Networks, told CRN in April that security is one of the most important areas of technology partners should invest in. The company saw double-digit security growth in the first quarter of 2021. The segment grew 11 percent year over year to $ 163 million.

The new platform will be vital for channel partners to help their customers migrate to a SASE or a networked approach to security to protect their entire IT environment, Madrid said.

« From a partner’s point of view, not only can you manage the transition to SASE, but you can manage that transition, not just with Juniper technologies, but with other technologies that you have in the customer environment and in your practice. »
