After changing from the No. 28 jersey he wore at the Super Bowl run of the Tampa Bay Buccaneer last season, the return will now get its old college number back. Fournette throws it back to his time as superstar RB at LSU and will attract icon number 7 for the future.
This change has been a long time coming. When the idea of this recently enacted rule change was first proposed, Fournette took the opportunity to claim his # 7 jersey.
After the rule was officially passed by the NFL owners last week, skill players are now allowed to pay wear in the single-digit range. Previously only assigned the numbers 20-49, running backs can now choose between 1-49.
While Fournette seemed happy to take advantage of this new opportunity, one of his teammates was downright annoyed about the change. In a number of Instagram posts last week, Bucs quarterback Tom Brady railed about how this rule change will make it difficult for his pass blockers to find their jobs. The all-time star even went so far as to say the rule was « stupid. »
This didn’t seem to phase Fournette, however. Even with the NFL ruling that all players must buy up inventory of the remaining jerseys in order to change their numbers, the fifth year they ran back was quick to make the change.
This will be Fournette’s third NFL -Number as he wore the number 27 for the first three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
