Le vétéran Jordan Hicks avait été retranché comme secondeur intermédiaire partant des Cardinals de l’Arizona. Il a accumulé plus de 100 plaqués au cours de chacune des deux dernières saisons, contre 150 en 2019.
Bien sûr, l’équipe a fait un grand pas dans le repêchage de la NFL à la position de Hicks. Arizona était clairement amoureux de Zaven Collins de Tulsa, qui a eu une énorme campagne d’évasion en 2020, et l’a emmené un peu plus tôt que prévu au 16e rang du classement général.
Après une solide deuxième saison en 2019, Collins a tout fait pour le Golden Hurricane en 2020, avec 54 plaqués en huit matchs, dont 7,5 plaqués pour perte, quatre sacs, quatre interceptions et deux touchés défensifs.
Les Cardinals ont cherché à ajouter de la puissance de star du côté défensif pour équilibrer une équipe lourde en attaque dirigée par Kyler Murray et DeAndre Hopkins. Collins les rend plus jeunes et plus explosifs à cette fin, et cela rend Hicks consommable. Selon Ian Rapoport de NFL Network, il a été autorisé à chercher un échange.
Les choix du 1er tour au repêchage peuvent changer les plans: les #AZCardinals ont choisi LB Zaven Collins 16e au général, et il est maintenant le soutien de départ de MIKE. L’équipe a donné à Jordan Hicks la permission de trouver une nouvelle maison via le commerce, a déclaré une source. Hicks est un leader respecté & AZ veut faire ce qu’il faut.
Hicks aura 29 ans en juin. Il est un ancien choix de troisième ronde des Eagles de Philadelphie lors du repêchage 2015 de la NFL.
Après quatre ans à Philadelphie, il a signé un contrat de quatre ans de 34 millions de dollars avec les Cardinals de l’Arizona avant la saison 2019. Il a un salaire de base de 2 millions de dollars pour la saison à venir.
Comme le note ProFootballTalk, l’Arizona économiserait 2,9 millions de dollars en espace de plafond s’ils attendaient de l’échanger après le 1er juin.Nous verrons donc peut-être un accord conclu prochainement, mais il ne deviendra probablement pas officiel d’ici là. Il faut imaginer qu’il y aura un marché pour un secondeur intérieur solidement productif à son apogée.
