CM – Let’s drink and recap the first episode of « The Great British Baking Show »

The most beautiful television competition in the world is back!

’Tis Dining Month, the most delicious time of the year! That means we’ll be serving up fun and fascinating food content throughout October. Grab it, Milwaukee!

Autumn is here and the temperatures are falling – what could be nicer to snuggle up in the cozy sweater of the streaming world, a blanket in TV form: « The Great British Baking Show » on Netflix !

That’s right: The most beautiful competition show in the world is back with even more adorable retirees, even more talented bakers who are half my age, even more cornball jokes, even more candidates with incredible grace and humor fail … also show. Really impressive stuff too, if this first episode is to be believed – with cakes in its first set of challenges, including mini-rolls (aka ho-hos), malt bread (aka fruit cakes, but with a worse name and one Side dish of butter) and the art of baking that defies gravity.

New episodes appear on Netflix every Friday – and we meet again every Sunday evening at 9:05 p.m. on OnMilwaukee’s Facebook to have some alcohol, summarize the latest developments and have another drink. (Pru would agree.)

So tune in to the first episode below, where I talk about which candidates we see, how a good loaf of bread rises, which candidates we see crumbling long before the finale, what wonderful, cheeky nonsense that opening music was If we should send help to Jürgen’s poor rabbit, terrorized by the trumpet, whose cake despite gravity in the end lost against physics, what the hell was Jairzeno thinking with this cake construction at the last challenge and more!

Stay tuned for more Sunday night recap episodes – and be sure to join the conversations in the comments! Cheers – and to another delightful batch of « The Great British Baking Show! »

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that you’ve always been passionate about film, Matt Mueller has always been passionate about film. Whether it was bringing up the latest movie reviews for his show-and-tell in first grade or writing movie reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is far too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he’s not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking too ardently about « Piranha 3D », Matt is likely watching literally any sport (excluding cricket) or working at a local movie theater. Or watch a movie. Yeah, he’s probably watching a movie.
