2nd ODI report: Ireland recorded their first win over South Africa, beating the visitors by 43 runs after the century of captain Andy Balbirnie in his second one-day international on Tuesday.
Balbirnie scored 102 of 117 balls and Harry Tector added 79, including four sixes, while Ireland scored 290-5 in the second of its three-game ODI series at The Village.
The Proteas had never lost an ODI to Ireland and will now have to win on Friday, to avoid a series defeat. The first game of the series ended with no result after continued rain on Sunday.
Opener Janneman Malan scored 84 to lead South Africa and Rassie van der Dussen added 49 before the Irish bowlers found their rhythm when the Proteas hit 247 fell.
South Africa won the throw and took the field as they did on Sunday when Balbirnie scored the best with 65 balls out of 79.
