CM – « Lost A Great Man »: Dalai Lama condolences the death of Archbishop Desmond Tutu

The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, condoled the death of South Africa's anti-apartheid icon Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu on Sunday and called him a "true philanthropist".

The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama condoled the death of South Africa’s anti-apartheid icon Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu on Sunday and called him a « true philanthropist ».

In a letter to Tutu’s daughter Mpho Tutu, the Dalai described him Lama named the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate as his « respected older spiritual brother and good friend ».

« Please accept my condolences … and convey the same to your mother and other members of your family. I pray for him, » it says in the letter to Mpho.

Recalling his association with Tutu, the Dalai Lama wrote: “As you know, your father and I enjoyed lasting friendship over the years. I remember the many opportunities we spent together, including the week here in Dharamshala in 2015 when we were able to share our thoughts on how to increase peace and joy in the world. The friendship and spiritual bond between us was something we valued very much. « The Dalai Lama said the South African Racial Justice and LGBT Rights activist was » fully committed to serving his brothers and sisters for the common good.  » / p> He called Tutu a true philanthropist and a committed human rights advocate, and said his work for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was an inspiration to others around the world.

« In his death we lost a great man, who lived a really meaningful life. He is dedicated to serving others, especially those who are least fortunate. I am convinced that we can give him the best tribute and keep his spirit alive is to follow suit and constantly see how we can help others, « wrote the Dalai Lama.

Tutu died in the Early Sunday morning in Cape Town, South Africa. He was the last surviving South African Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Tutu, who had previously survived tuberculosis, had surgery for prostate cancer in 1997. He has also been hospitalized several times over the past few years with various ailments.
