CM – Mackay Hockey Star is fighting for the Olympic place

A Mackay hockey star has been selected for a New Zealand series that will be his last success before the Olympic selection

The final opportunity for players competing for a place on the Australian Olympic ice hockey team will be next week with a Mackay player in a 22-player roster.

24-year-old Jacob Anderson became Named for the Sentinel Homes Trans-Tasman Series against New Zealand from May 27th to June 1st.

Only 16 players will be selected for the Australian Olympic team. The Trans-Tasman series is the final official event before the squad heads to Tokyo.

Kookaburra’s head coach Colin Batch said the high pressure environment is an ideal stage for assessing how the players are doing at the Olympics.

« In every training session and intra-squad game we’ve had since COVID, the players have been expected to do their best and push each other to improve, » said Batch.

« It’s not just what they do individually, but also what they can do to improve the teammates at their side. »

The forward Anderson has represented Australia in the past, 23 caps disputed and scored nine goals for green and gold.

Batch said the team is ready to put the team first despite personal choices, which is a great motivation for the players.

« Even though the guys are fighting for places, they know it is It’s a team-first mentality and that’s part of what we’re looking for when evaluating performance, « he said.

 » At the Olympics, we need players who can consistently perform at high levels. With four games in six days against New Zealand, this streak will be no different. « 

The Kookaburras will arrive in New Zealand on the Friday before the opening game on Thursday May 27th.
