A ‘breakthrough’ malaria vaccine developed by British researchers is set to save the lives of millions of children in Africa after study results exceeded expectations.
In a study of nearly 6,000 children between the ages of five and 17 Months ago in Burkina Faso and Mali, it was found that the vaccine developed by the Brentford-based pharmaceutical company GSK reduces the rate of severe malaria by 70 percent.
Scientists are confident that the World Health Organization (WHO) will recommend the vaccine when one comes in October Expert panel meets.
Currently, children in Burkina Faso and Mali receive treatment with malaria medication four times a year during the rainy season to protect themselves from the disease.
