Latest politician vaccinated with coronavirus to report mild symptoms

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said Monday he had tested positive for the coronavirus in routine tests and joined members of Congress on the list of high profile politicians who caught the pathogen in the midst of a winter surge.

“This morning, as part of my regular test routine, I received a positive rapid test for COVID-19. I’ve been vaccinated and boosted and I feel good right now, ”tweeted Mr. Hogan, a Republican. « As the Omicron variant becomes dominant, I urge you to get vaccinated or get your booster vaccination as soon as possible. »

He joins Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Cory A. Booker from New Jersey, which also recently tested positive, and MP Jason Crow, a Democrat from Colorado, who gave a positive result after returning from a trip to Ukraine.

Like Mr. Hogan, all lawmakers emphasized that Although their vaccinations and booster shots did not prevent infection, they only experienced mild symptoms.

The reports of infections among vaccinated people skyrocketed over the summer as immunity to previous vaccinations waned and the fast-paced Delta variant caught on.

President Biden has in recent days stressed the greater likelihood of serious illness and death in unvaccinated people rather than G. vaccinated to promise not to get infected at all. He plans to address the latest threat, the Omicron variant, on Tuesday.

Vaccine skeptics have raised cases of infections among the vaccinated to question the value of the vaccinations. However, politicians and other public voices, including CNBC host Jim Cramer, say the vaccines likely prevented an even worse attack.

« Fortunately, my symptoms are mild. & am grateful for the protection against serious diseases that comes with vaccination with & Boost, ”tweeted Ms. Warren. « As cases rise across the country, I urge anyone who hasn’t already done this to get the vaccine and booster vaccine as soon as possible – together we can save lives. » Maryland health authorities cite on increased hospital admission rates and other data suggest the state is experiencing a surge in cases of COVID-19. But the state has put daily numbers of new cases and deaths on hold since a cybersecurity breach by the Maryland Department of Health earlier this month.
