Istanbul – Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton will receive a 10-place penalty for Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix after being penalized for using too many engine parts, race organizers said ahead of Friday practice.
Mercedes is using a fourth part to reduce the risk of Hamilton failing a championship run-in that is closer than it has been in years.
Hamilton’s title rival Red Bull driver Max Verstappen received two weeks ago a similar penalty.
Since the seven-time world champion Hamilton only got one engine component, he will not be punished with a complete relegation from the starting position.
