Max-Alain Gradel’s early goal was enough to secure Ivory Coast a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea in the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday, but the minnows were no weaklings in the Group E encounter.
Gradel, captain of a strong ivory team with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha on the bench, scored a powerful shot from the edge of the box in the sixth minute as they made a quick start to the clash at Japoma Stadium. </ But while Ibrahim Sangare had two chances to double the lead before half-time, Equatorial Guinea, one of the smallest countries in Africa, showed more than one game.
The minnows had several good chances as they were little afraid of their opponents in the heavyweight division showed that captain Emilio Nsue didn’t convert the best of them.
