A new cup team will join NASCAR in 2022. And while many teams have announced a move to NASCAR’s top tier series over the years, the success of these new teams that actually persist has been mixed. Most of the new teams were the ones who typically spent a few seasons in the lower echelons and were from the United States.
On Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, another new team announced a move to the Cup series for the next season. But this team is very different from most of the others.
Team Hezeberg, with a little help from Reaume Brothers Racing, will use a Ford Mustang part-time in the Cup series next season. At the beginning they will run a campaign on the 6 street courses for the next year. The team is owned by Hezeberg Systems and will have two drivers at the wheel: NASCAR Whelen Euro Champion Loris Hezemans and former Formula 1 Champion Jacques Villeneuve. The team has the distinction of being the first to switch from the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series to the Cup series.
The Hezemens come from Holland, and the team is owned by Toine Hezemans, father of Loris and former European touring car champion and two-time 24-hour winner of Le Mans together with the Dutch entrepreneur Ernst Berg (hence the name of the team Hezeberg) .

Tonie quickly realized that the allure of getting to America and the Cup series is the new next-gen car that will debut in 2022. According to Hezemans, NASCAR’s next-gen car is closer to the cars that are driven in Europe, and that makes it more attractive to Europeans as racers.
« It’s totally. It’s the first time in ages, ”he said. “It has an independent suspension with a sequential transmission of the European type. It has 18-inch wheels, which is a revolution, I get it. It has central locking which is another revolution. I mean when it comes to the suspension, the brakes, everything that we have in Europe and it is the same with all other cars, so it is not entirely different. This car is really like, I’d say it’s fantastic. NASCAR did it. It really is more or less comparable to what we have in Europe. ”
The new cars are not only more Eurocentric, but if someone wants to understand how popular Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen is in his home country, all he has to do is hear Dutchman Toine Hezemans after the car was presented at the press conference on Saturday. The basic color is orange and, according to Hesemans, there is only one reason for this.

Jacques Villeneuve will test the team’s next-gen car in NASCAR tests on the Charlotte ROVAL next week.
