CM – Mazepin retires from FP2 in Qatar with chassis damage

0

Nikita Mazepin had to miss the second practice session at the Qatar Grand Prix due to a chassis damage in FP1 on Friday.

The Haas rookie was one of only two drivers on the grid – the other is Sergio Perez – who grew up on the Losail International Circuit in their junior career after taking part in an MRF Challenge event in Formula 1 in 2014, resulting in a chassis damage on the curbs that excluded him from FP2.

The damage was severe enough for Mazepin to require a chassis change. Since Haas had to prepare the replacement, Mazepin did not take part in the second session in Qatar, but will use the old chassis from FP3 onwards.

At this point of the weekend there is no penalty for a chassis change, although Haas will check the car again must before Mazepin takes part in further races on Saturday.
