The Queensland Police Department managed to capture the moment on camera last night as they drove through the state’s Glitter Strip.
The bright flash seemed to sink towards earth and lit the sky for us a brief moment before it disappeared.
The sighting coincides with the time of year the Lyrid meteor shower is normally visible from the Australian sky.
The Lyrids are among the oldest observed meteor showers in the world and reach usually peaking in late April.
