CM – Mets are starting to « hate » all of these double heads.

The Mets are preparing to play their 10th double header of the season on Saturday - the highest total for an MLB team before the All-Star break since the Blue Jays in 1978.

As the Mets prepare to play their 10th double header of the season on Saturday – the highest pre-All-Star break for an MLB team since the 1978 Blue Jays – Francisco Lindor begs for one Return to the normality of everyday baseball.

« I love the seven innings double headers, but I hate that we have so many this year, » said Lindor before the Mets took on the Pirates at Citi Field. “Now I say, ‘Ah, s-t, two more games.” It sure burdens you. It’s something that nobody wants to do. We’re here to play 162 every day, not two a day. ”

The latest double header is the result of a rainout on Thursday against the Pirates. On Wednesday, the Mets double headed the Brewers at Citi Field, won the first game and lost the nightcap.

It’s an equation that has become all too common for the Mets, who shared their last five double titles and have lost the nightcap in each of them.

« We have to figure that formula out, » said Lindor. « We have to figure out how to win two games in one day. »

The Mets haven’t finished with double heads after Saturday. Three more are slated for the second half to ensure the team will play at least 13. This is the highest total for the franchise since 1979, when the Mets played 19 double headers.

« I think there is an advantage in having two games with seven innings because we have some starters who give us some length and yes, it can protect our bullpen, « said coach Luis Rojas.

» The seven-inning games are a really good adaptation from MLB to keep the guys fresh so that the guys can play both games to save the bullpen. «

The Mets have managed to avoid being swept into a double header this season. Twice they have defeated an opponent (April 13 against Philadelphia and May 27 against Colorado).

Although the Mets are prone to drama in the late inning, Lindor does not see the shortened games as affecting the team’s chances of a comeback -Win.

« I’m so into the game that I don’t really see it, » said Lindor. « I see it more like: ‘We haven’t scored a goal, there is another inning, another chance for us to score, let’s take advantage of that.' »
