CM – Mets puts Luis Guillorme on the list of injured in a defensive strike

The Mets' best defense option on the third base is going to pause for at least the next week and likely longer.

PHILADELPHIA – The Mets ‘best defense option on the third base will be out for at least next week and likely longer.

Prior to the Mets’ 2-1 loss to the Phillies on Friday night, Luis Guillorme was having a tense put right slash on the list of injured. It was unclear how Guillorme – who last appeared in a game on Sunday – suffered the injury. Guillorme’s IL stint was retroactive to Thursday.

Guillorme has played 14 games this season, serving as a defensive late inning substitute and left racket off the bench. His consistent play on third base was boosted by the team during J.D.’s recent IL stint. Davis and the ensuing defensive break-in.

Infielder Jose Peraza has been called back from the alternate location to take Guillorme’s roster seat. Peraza had been selected as an option earlier in the day to make room for left-handed Daniel Zamora.

Jacob deGrom’s next start is expected to take place on Tuesday in St. Louis, according to manager Luis Rojas, to give the Mets ace one to allow an additional day of rest.

Rojas cited the entire game deGrom, which was played two starts ago against the Nationals, as a factor. DeGrom was then removed after six innings and 93 pitches on Wednesday against the Red Sox.

« We’ll be in May as early as May, but we’ve said that in the past: we want everyone all year round, » said Rojas . « Nothing is happening [physically] but we just want to keep the guys fresh, so we might have a chance on Monday. »

If Joey Lucchesi isn’t called back to start, the Mets could play a bullpen game. Robert Gsellman and Jacob Barnes are among the possibilities to place multiple innings at such a start.

Carlos Carrasco, who was stretched to five innings in his last simulated game, is expected to start the rotation in the second week of May, according to Rojas . The right-handed man has rehabilitated from a right thigh tear that occurred during spring training. … Seth Lugo has thrown two side sessions, according to Rojas, and could soon face Batters in his rehab after surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Mets players and staff received their second dose after Wednesday’s game of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine as there was a day off for anyone who might have needed it to treat side effects.

« Some guys told me they were tired [Thursday] but they could Get rest. I think it was a good call from our medical staff to do it after the game before a day off to help the boys recover if they got any symptoms, « said Rojas.

Last week Reigning GM Zack Scott said the Mets had failed to achieve the 85 percent vaccination turnout encouraged by MLB.

The Mets had allowed 16 inexperienced runs this season, which took place on Friday, most of them in major leagues – even with the fewest games played by a team.
