Michael K. Williams of The Wire was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment on Monday. He was 54.

According to the New York Post and Daily News, drug paraphernalia were found in the actor’s apartment. In addition to his five year run on The Wire, Williams’ many TV credits included Boardwalk Empire, Community, The Spoils Before Dying, The Night Of, When We Rise, Hap and Leonard, When They See Us and his voice on F Is for the Family.
Williams is currently an Emmy nominee for his role as Lovecraft Country’s Montrose Freeman for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. He previously received acting awards for his roles in When They See Us, The Night Of and the TV movie Bessie.
Williams was in an untitled biopic about the great boxing athlete George Foreman, who played coach Doc Broadus , has been cast.
Isiah Whitlock Jr., who played Senator Clay Davis in The Wire, remembered Williams as “one of the nicest brothers on the planet with the biggest hearts. An amazing actor and soul. «
