CM – Minnaar and Nicole have crowned themselves champions at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships

Greg Minnaar won his fourth International Cycling Union (UCI) mountain bike world championship in Val di Sole, Italy, while the French Myriam Nicole won her second gold medal in the competition.

In the men’s elite downhill the South Africans crossed the finish line in 3 min. 28.963 seconds and took the win ahead of Nicole’s compatriot Benoit Coulanges, who ended 0.227 seconds slower.

Vergier had high expectations on his shoulders after having the fastest time of almost one Second had qualified for the final.

Minnaar had won the downhill races in 2003, 2012 and 2013 before the success this season.

Meanwhile, France achieved a double victory in the elite women’s downhill, as Nicole of Marine Cabirou had made it onto the podium.

Nicole was by far the superior driver and finished the route in 4: 06.243, which was 4.827 seconds faster than the native Millau.

Camille Balanche from Switzerland f 6,099 seconds later than Myriam and secured the bronze medal.

The top qualifier Valentina Holl from Austria capitulated in the final, 22.579 seconds behind in 12th place.

The Canadian Jackson Goldstone crossed the finish line in 3rd place : 37,097 and was crowned champion in the men’s race, while Briton Jordan Williams and Lachlan Stevens-McNab from New Zealand took second and third place.

The Bulgarian Izabela Yankova topped the women’s charts when she took the course in 4 : 30.865 flashed.

Gracey Hemstreet then made sure that she won the bronze medal, even though she was only 13.245 seconds behind the Bulgarian.
