Australia’s Olympic track and field team spent several hours at a training camp ahead of the Cairns Games this weekend after an employee returned an inconclusive Covid-19 test. Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman said the person tested negative in Melbourne before traveling Thursday to join the team in Cairns, where another test gave the inconclusive result.

All athletes were up until Saturday night Locked in their rooms for several hours, although further tests are expected to confirm the person is not infected, and a warm-up meeting scheduled for Sunday is taking place.

« The subsequent inconclusive test upon entering the athletics camp solved two carried out further, more extensive tests to confirm the employee’s negative status, ”said Chestermann.

« Athletics Australia has worked closely with Queensland Health and the employee has been quarantined pending final confirmation of their negative status today. »

In case you missed it, Immigration Secretary Alex Hawke announced this weekend that supermarkets in states and territories subject to Covid-19 bans will allow international students to stay longer than the normal 40-hour limit per 14 days.

The rationale for the change, according to Hawke, is to help supermarkets stay open and handle high customer demand, even when employees have to self-isolate.

The decision follows apparently a request for urgent relief from the supermarket sector as many employees are subject to the self-isolation order, the press release announcing the change said.

Supermarket workers are unsung heroes of the pandemic. They stepped up to ensure Australians had access to essential items and they did so even during the darkest days of the pandemic.

This temporary measure ensures that supermarkets continue to provide their critical services to the community and provides additional income flexibility for key workers even during lockdown.

Just as I say the news has slowed down, NSW Health released a Public Health Alert for a number of new exposure sites and public transportation options across the state.

The updated list includes a BP truck stop in Raglan near Bathurst, confirming fears the virus is spreading far and wide across the state.

Anyone who has visited the truck stop during the times listed should call NSW Health immediately on 1800 943 553 Call, get tested, and isolate yourself until NSW Health provides further advice. This grave response only shows how concerned the state is that the virus will hit regional cities.

NSW Health has also updated the times it previously had for Coles in Hurstville Westfield to be Saturday noon to 12.30pm.

It has announced additional times for previously announced venues, including the Ikea in Marsden Park and the Fairfield Forum Pharmacy.

People criticize a recent tweet from Victorian deputy opposition leader and shadow health minister Georgie Crozier for spreading misinformation surrounding the Victoria Covid-19 lockdown.

In a tweet on Friday, Crozier shared a « Lockdown # » 5 Checklist ”, which contained action elements such as“ setup kids ”. Desks for homeschoolingâ ???? and « Call mom and explain that I cannot visit her at the nursing home as promised ».

Under the current lockdown restrictions, Victorians are still allowed to leave their homes for medical reasons. BreastScreen Victoria also confirmed Friday that they will remain open and under investigation with security measures throughout the lockdown.

Virginia Trioli, Mornings host on ABC Radio Melbourne, asked Crozier to delete the tweet.

This is dangerous and should be deleted, @georgiecrozier You can and should get your mammogram. @BreastScreenVic is OPEN. https://t.co/Svs2aE45IV

Others said they were particularly concerned that the shadow health minister was unaware that a mammogram could be obtained during the lockdown.

During the long lockdown, I had a mammogram, ultrasound, and breast biopsy. Didn’t have to reschedule at all. I thought you should know that you are shadow health minister.

OK, back to the Covid-19 news (sorry): NSW police are taking bigger steps to make sure people respect lockdown restrictions.

In a statement, NSW police said the general purpose police would be on duty to conduct high visibility patrols while specialized officers would patrol roads and transport hubs.

I share the community’s disgust for the selfish behavior of a small minority who willfully continue to disregard public health orders. More than 20 people have been charged and tried for criminal offenses in the past 24 hours.

Police don’t want to interact with people who don’t, but make no mistake if people don’t adhere to the public health order. We will not hesitate to enforce the orders.

In the past 24 hours, the police have visited just over 1,325 Covid-related jobs, around 860 of which were reports from members of the community to Crime Stoppers. This underscores that the police are responding to the widespread concerns expressed by the community about health code violations.

You may be wondering: If the crew members test positive for Covid-19 in the end, will WA Prime Minister Mark McGowan simply ask the ship to go back to sea?

McGowan has already confirmed that this will not happen. That’s because there is a good chance that if some of the crew members are sick they will infect the rest of the people on board.

« You will imagine that you are on the high seas or cruising along the coast of Western Australia, and the entire crew cannot operate the ship, well then that is » an emergency at sea, – ???? he told reporters today.

04:39 a.m. BST04: 39

Crew members on a cargo ship scheduled to arrive in Fremantle, Western Australia, showing symptoms of Covid-19 and prompting an emergency response from WA health officials.

The BBC California with 14 crew members on board left Egypt in June. It has since docked in three ports in Indonesia, a country currently experiencing one of the worst Covid-19 outbreaks in the pandemic.

WA Prime Minister Mark McGowan told reporters today the state is acting as if the crew has contracted Covid-19 and is taking precautions to prevent the virus from re-entering the community .

« We believe that these crew members should stay aboard the ship … undergo medical examinations on board the ship, » said McGowan.

« If someone is so sick they need to recover, I suspect they need to go to the hospital. »

The ship is due to dock in Fremantle harbor today or tomorrow. The crew will be medically examined on board.

Then I’ll hand it over to my colleague Justine Landis-Handley. Have a nice rest of Sunday.

In non-pandemic news, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce compared climate policy to cucumbers in ABC’s Insiders program.

And one last thing. The TikTok comedian Jon-Bernard Kairoz, who has made it his business to « predict » exactly? Case numbers in NSW were released at 10:30 p.m. yesterday to say 105 new cases will be announced today. He was right.
