CM – Novak Djokovic invited to the French Open, even if he was not vaccinated

The French Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu confirmed today, Friday, January 7th that the Serbian tennis champion Novak Djokovic will be allowed to take part in this year’s French Open, regardless of whether he has been vaccinated against Covid-19 or not.

The famous tennis tournament, which takes place annually in Roland Garros, is scheduled to take place between May 16 and June 5, 2022. In a statement to ‘France info’, Maracineanu pointed out that according to French legislation, unvaccinated athletes are sent to Major. Competitions can take part because « the health bubble of these major sporting events allows it ».

« This will allow someone like Novak Djokovic to enter our territory, » added the minister. This comes in the wake of the Serb’s current problem in which he was banned from participating in the Australian Open.

The authorities down under have canceled his visa because it does not meet the country’s vaccination regulations. Now he allegedly has to wait until Monday for the Australian judiciary to make a final decision.

Maracineanu announced that a meeting with the Interministerial Crisis Committee (CIC) will take place next Monday, “to specifically redefine the responsibility for the jurisdiction to define what may happen in the coming weeks “on this matter. Possible sport exemptions for unvaccinated athletes at major competitions in France will be discussed during this session, as reported by
