CM – NSW Labor leader resigns

Ms. McKay was bruised for a week after her party’s candidate lost an Upper Hunter by-election, leading some party members to speculate about her time as chairman.

As I revealed @SkyNewsAust last hour, Jodi McKay was expecting Labor sources to step down. She was having trouble finding a shadow treasurer. Headquarters asked Ryan Park not to run and he agreed. Looks like Chris Minns to be leader

Two Labor sources speaking to NCA NewsWire couldn’t confirm Ms. McKay made such a decision, but one of the people said there was one later in the day Would make a « significant » announcement by the party.

Two senior Labor figures resigned this week, indicating a lack of confidence in Ms. McKay’s leadership.

The couple included Chris Minns, who is likely to succeed him viewed by Mrs. McKay.

The former traffic spokesman resigned on Wednesday in protest against a dirty file distributed to journalists from the shadow cabinet, which wanted to undermine his chances as future leader of the Labor Party.

Ms. McKay said she had no idea the file existed until reporters alerted her, but revealed that a clerk in her deputy Yasmin Catley’s office had resigned because of its distribution.

« I am apparently very disappointed with news yesterday that the Labor Party office vice-chairman distributed a dirt dossier, « said Minns.

He added that neither Ms. McKay nor Ms. Catley had contacted him to explain what happened.

« As a result, my position in the shadow cabinet is untenable and I will resign with immediate effect, » said Minns.

The spokesman for the opposition treasury, Walt Secord, was in protest the previous day over the filth he had made « disgusting », resigned.

Despite the fighting, Ms. McKay defended her position this week, insisting that her position as leader be secure.

« The fact of the matter is, I do not I have support in the caucus, « she told the 2 GB radio station on Wednesday morning.

» I am democratically elected. It is quite extraordinary to challenge a person who is democratically elected by our party simply because we had a by-election loss on a seat that we would never win. “
