In an address at the annual meeting of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), he said that most of the countries in the world are friends of India, including the United States, Russia and France.

« We have told every friendly country that we want to manufacture the military platforms, weapons and ammunition in India ourselves, while keeping the security of the country in mind, » he said.

The Defense Minister said the message to the countries that manufacture military equipment is: » Come, do in India, come, do for India and come, do for the world « .

As an example, Mr Singh cited after his talks with French Defense Minister Florence Parly on Friday that it had been agreed that a big French Company will produce « an engine » in India by partnering with an Indian company under the strategic partnership model. However, he did not elaborate on it.

Mr Singh said that India would cultivate friendship with these countries, but at the same time did not hesitate to promote the production of important platforms on Indian soil.

« We will cultivate friendship, but at the same time make it clear that all the military equipment, weapons and ammunition required must be produced in India, « said the Defense Minister.

The Defense Minister also referred to the government’s decision not to import 209 military equipment on a staggered schedule in order to boost the domestic defense industry, noting that the items on the list could be 1,000.

Last August This year, Mr Singh announced that India will cease importing 101 weapons and military platforms such as transport aircraft, light attack helicopters, conventional submarines, cruise missiles and sonar systems by 2024.

A second list of import restrictions on 108 military weapons and systems such as next-generation corvettes, airborne early warning systems, tank engines and radars was released a few months later.

In May last year, the government announced that it would raise the FDI limit from 49 percent to 74 percent as part of the automatic route in the defense sector.
