The Australian military brass seemed taken aback when the country’s navy invited a group of scantily clad dancers to spin at a ceremonial ceremony.
In footage of the event, the women in red berets and tiny black shorts while working alongside a newly unveiled naval ship in Sydney this past weekend, according to a clip posted by ABC Australia.
The steamy dance number outraged some government officials who labeled it shameful and deaf, the outlet reported.
« What would Horatio Nelson think of this show? » An unnamed official raged and referred to the late British naval commander. « Many [MPs] have expressed their surprise to the government at this ceremony. »
The source added, « The dancers are irrelevant – we’re supposed to be a force. »
The dancers had been asked Perform at the event to celebrate the commission of a new warship, attended by the Chief of Defense, the country’s governor-general and members of parliament.
Phillip Bruce Thompson, an Australian politician and former soldier, said the standards for military Events should be higher.
« The standards in the ADF and definitely at the start of a ship should be a little higher, » he said. « We have the CDF, we have MPs there, and the Governor General is there. I don’t think it’s appropriate to work. »
