The fact that the San Diego Padres are above 0.500 and are in second place in their series with the San Francisco Giants in NL West is no surprise to most. But the fact that the Padres outperformed the Giants in first place in the division is sure to come as a surprise.
The Giants turn to their ace Kevin Gausman on Saturday. He’s had a career rebirth in San Francisco, going 5-3 with a 2.99 ERA paired with 10.8 spikes and 6.8 hits per nine innings since joining the Giants in 2020.
After Joe Musgrove of the Padres had set a 1-5 record for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season, but also managed to move to the West Coast. He threw a no-hitter in April and despite a 2-3 record, he was solid with 2.38 ERA and 12.4 strikeouts at 1.9 walks per nine innings.
