The Phillies’ second baseman scored a two-out, walk-off home run on Wednesday night, giving his team a 2-1 win over the Braves. Williams is the first player in franchise history to reach a walk-off home run on his first start in the big league.
« I don’t know if I can find words to describe this moment », said Williams after the win. “It was pretty incredible, you know? I’m still trying to figure everything out. «
The win prevented the Phillies from falling to 28:32, which would have set their closing record from the 2020 season shortened by the pandemic. Instead, it was the team’s third win in four Play as they’re trying to shake off a daunting start. It also gave Williams a memory that will last a lifetime.

According to Elias Sports, only five players have made a walk-off home run on their first start before Wednesday in the last 20 years. Carlos Perez (Angels, 2015), Ben Francisco (Indian, 2007), Miguel Cabrera (Marlins, 2003), Esix Snead (Mets, 2002) and Josh Bard (Indian, 2002) were the youngest.
