CM – Pope keeps wickets for England in fourth Ashes test

SYDNEY: Substitute fielder Ollie Pope will be played during Australia’s second innings in the fourth Ashes Test kept wickets for England due to injuries to Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow, the team announced on Saturday.

Regular wicketkeeper Buttler was injured during Australia’s first innings on the second day of the test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on the left index finger.

Bairstow, another wicketkeeper batsman, also had scans on his right thumb after being hit by a delivery on the digit during his innings of 103 on Friday.

The 32-year-old will resume his innings on Saturday morning, when England starts at 258 for seven to further take Australia’s lead of 158.

All-rounder Pope, who was dismissed after the second Test of the series, previously held wickets for England in the second Test against New Zealand 2019 when Buttler was injured.

Ben Stokes, who played at England’s mini-revival 66 on Friday Scored goals is also on England’s injury list.

The all-rounder sustained a side injury on matchday two and was unable to bowl in Australia’s first innings.

He was brought in for an exam on Saturday morning to determine the severity of the injury and will be examined at the end of the game, the team said.
