Port Adelaide legend Russell Ebert died of leukemia at the age of 72.

Port Adelaide legend Russell Ebert died at the age of 72 after a battle with leukemia.

Ebert was a four-time Magarey Medal winner with the Power and won the during his illustrious career Club three premierships.

In a club record of 392 games for Port between 1968 and 1985, Ebert scored 294 goals and won the club’s best and fairest award six times.

South Australian soccer legend Russell Ebert has died of leukemia after a long battle. He was 72 celebrated by AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan.

“Russell Ebert was an exceptional footballer and his record confirms this as the only person in SANFL history with four Magarey medals, paired with several premierships and almost 400 senior games just for his loved ones Magpies, alongside his brilliant state career and a season with North Melbourne in the VFL, « he said.

“As a young fan of the game in Adelaide, even watching him as an opponent, you couldn’t help but admire his high score, one-touch ball collecting, brilliant attacking handball and exceptional kicking skills on both sides of his body than him took your side apart. And all while being an incredibly fair player who relied on his skills while being strong and brave at the same time.

« As his time in football came to an end, Russell became a humble but strong leader in society, not just in football, and for more than 30 years he worked diligently every day to improve his community by playing used his profile and leadership to “Show people better ways to interact with one another and help those who have struggled.
