LYON, France – Paris Saint-Germain have turned the tables against five-time defending champions Lyon, winning the second leg of the women’s Champions League quarter-finals 2-1 on Sunday to win the semi-finals 2-2 on away goals
Jordyn Huitema of Chilliwack, BC, is a PSG striker and Toronto’s Ashley Lawrence is a defender for the club.
The Canadians, along with their PSG teammates, will meet on April 24th, May 1st. in the semi-finals on Barcelona.
Toronto’s Kadeisha Buchanan is defender of seven-time champions Lyon, who were unbeaten in 31 games in this competition.
Lyon went 1-0 from Paris at home and scored after just four minutes American striker Catarina Macario.
But PSG, who also suffered a rare defeat in the French league earlier this season, were resilient in the middle of the first half through midfielder Grace Gey oro.
The PSG winner came in the 61st minute from an own goal by central defender Wendie Renard, who scored a penalty for Lyon in Paris and has scored 116 goals from behind for the club since her debut in 2006.
But this time Lyon’s prolific captain hit the wrong net when she tried to cut out Kadidiatou Diani’s cross from the right and steered the ball past goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi.
PSG are well on their way to two Champions League finals to reach. The men knock out another defending champion from Bayern in the quarter-finals.
