Rami Malek has revealed the question he once asked Kate Middleton that seemed to have « taken her off guard ».
The actor, who starred in the new James Bond film as the main antagonist Safin, shared the anecdote this week at an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Malek said he met the royals at the London premiere of No Time to Die, held at the Royal Albert Hall on September 28th.
« The royals were there and everything, « said Malek to host Jimmy Kimmel. “It tells you it’s a special event. A film like Bond deserves that. «
He continued, » The last time I was at the Royal Albert Hall it was the Baftas, so I was familiar with Princess Kate and Prince Will. « </ The 40-year-old then remembered meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the awards ceremony in February 2019, where he was named Best Actor in 2018 for his leading role in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Malek said that they had « had a nice little chat » and went on to explain why he thought one of his questions had « taken Kate off guard ».
He remembered: « I only looked at Princess Kate once and said, ‘This must be exhausting « And she said, » Why? « [I replied] » You just had a baby, didn’t you? » I think she was taken aback. ”
The Duchess had given birth to Prince Louis in April 2018, less than a year before the Bafta ceremony.
Malek went on to explain that Kate seemed to distract the question by asking instead asked how he was.
The actor said, “[I’m like], ‘No, how are you?’ and in the most regal and elegant way she glanced at me. But it can be said. Imagine you are dressed in the very latest, you have to talk to all these actors. «
On Kimmel’s observation that the royals have to be careful, Malek replied: » They are so careful. But it was so cool. I think I surprised her for a second.
« And, you know, had this look – in the most elegant, professional, and regal way – ‘Yeah, it’s a lot to have a child.' » </ The California-born actor announced that he had then offered babysitting services to the couple. However, they have yet to be accepted.
Malek told E! News that it was « like meeting old friends » to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the recent premiere of No Time to Die.
