Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul said new documents support his allegations that Dr. Anthony Fauci lied to Congress about funding for viral gain-of-function research in China.
Fauci, the country’s leading epidemiologist, famously denied claims by Paul and others that the National Institutes of Health funded the controversial research that may have led to the global pandemic, yelling, “You don’t know what you’re talking about ! “
Newly released documents The Intercept had received appeared to show that Fauci was not truthful to the allegations.

Paul was known to have argued with Fauci over the issue of funding functional gains while testifying before the Senate Health Committee in July.
When asked to withdraw his comments on the refusal of funding, Fauci argued that the program he was overseeing technically did not qualify as a functional gain.

The new documents The Intercept received through a Freedom of Information Act request show that the Wuhan University Center for Animal Experiment has received a grant from Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases through the EcoHealth Alliance.
Dr. Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist from Rutgers University, reviewed the documents and concluded that Fauci lied about the research.

Paul had already referred Fauci to the Justice Department in July for possible charges.
