Jimmy Garoppolo remains involved in trade talks, with the latest proposal on Wednesday December 22nd being on an NFC South team.
No matter how exactly and how much work Jimmy Garoppolo played for the San Francisco 49ers, he and the 49ers believers still hear that constant tune of 2021: Who’s going to swap for Jimmy G?
Where’s he going 49ers quarterback two seasons away from getting the franchise to the Super Bowl ending up in 2022? What is its worth? What is he worth giving up for? These are the common questions among NFL fans and the media as Garoppolo raised the 49ers to 8-6 and in the driver’s seat for a wild card spot as NFC seed # 6.

Well, Garoppolo’s latest trade proposal, released on Monday December 20th, includes the following: San Francisco may earn a former # 3 overall who knows the West Coast all too well.
In a new column entitled “Realistic Trade Value and Landing Places for Experienced QBs”, Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus listed the Carolina Panthers as possible trading partners of the 49ers.
Spielberger’s idea: The 49ers are sending 30-year-old Garoppolo to NFC South in exchange for a 2022 fourth round and a 2023 second round.
Garoppolo played well enough during the 2021 season to put third overall pick quarterback Trey Lance on the sidelines hold, but this just can’t continue until 2022 after the team traded three first-round picks and one third-round pick to go upstairs and get him. Lance practically only started one season at FCS North Dakota State before signing up for the NFL, so it’s perfectly understandable that he would have a redshirt rookie season. Spielberger delved deeper into the idea by sharing:An interesting idea for the two teams might be that Sam Darnold is going to San Francisco on this trade and serving as Lance’s backup, with Carolina taking most of his option salary in the fifth year retains in order to facilitate the transition. The 49ers have shown with recent moves – such as the use of former first-round quarterback Josh Rosen – that they love to see what they can get out of physically gifted depth options with Signal Caller.
