OXFORD – Ole Miss midfielders wreaked havoc on the plate, the pitchers did their part on the hill, and the rebels got another win on Wednesday weekday.

The freshman shortstop Jacob Gonzalez and second baseman Peyton Chatagnier drove three runs apiece to lead Ole Miss to a 9-4 win over Little Rock on Wednesday at Swayze Field.

Gonzalez had a career height of four goals, including one triple home run in the seventh inning that effectively postponed the game.

Chatagnier drove three runs with a double in the second inning and scored a goal from Kevin Graham to give the Rebels an early 4-0 lead they did never gave up. It was Chatagnier’s only hit of the game.

Justin Bench also had two hits and two runs for Ole Miss (34-14), who improved to 11-1 mid-season that season. Since losing to Louisiana Tech on March 16, it has won this category eleven times in a row – including two against Little Rock (19-24).

The Rebels have another midweek game on their schedule, next Tuesday at home against Tennessee Martin.

Seven Ole Miss pitchers were combined for 19 strikes and just one walk. Starter Josh Mallitz had six in two innings and Tyler Myers, Wes Burton and Braden Forsyth each had three.

Austin Miller (1-1), the second pitcher, had two hits in his inning and was awarded the win.

The 19 playout games for Ole Miss are a season high and the highest since the 19th against Arkansas State on February 21, 2017.

The win on Wednesday was a nice preparation for a much bigger challenge this weekend. The rebels will host Vanderbilt No. 2 in a Southeastern Conference series with three games starting Friday at 6:00 p.m.

The game on Friday and the final on Sunday will both be broadcast on the SEC network. Sunday’s game starts at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday’s middle game starts at 4:00 p.m.
