« It is very clear, the International Criminal Court (ICC ) is a ‘b-s-t’, said President’s spokesman Harry Roque on Tuesday.

Roque merely repeated what President Duterte had said Monday night when he called the ICC over announcing a possible investigation into the Denounced series of murders in connection with the bloody drug war campaign in the Philippines.

« Hindi ko po alam bakit ganoon iyong nagging conclusion mo. Pero malinaw po iyan (I don’t know why you came to this conclusion. But it is clear), it’s’ BS ‘, « Roque replied when asked if the President meant that the colonizers’ lack of apology was the Unchecked murders in the US justify the government’s drug war campaign.

Roque claimed that the Philippines was a sovereign country and that if there was ever a trial against the president, “that before the Philippine finances and before the Filipino judges ”.

On June 14, the outgoing ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensaouda announced that she had applied to the Pre-Trial Chamber for permission to initiate an investigation into alleged crimes against humanity carried out under the controversial campaign on the war on drugs of the Duterte government in the first two years of his presidency and the last five years as mayor ter of Davao City.

However, Duterte took action against the ICC and vowed not to cooperate in any of its pending proceedings.

« Itong ICC, b-s-t itong … I wouldn’t … why should I defend myself or face charges before whites? » You must be crazy, « the president said during his meeting with the people on Monday evening.

By order of Duterte, the Philippines withdrew from the Rome Statute in March 2018, but the withdrawal did not take effect until March 2019 after the Secretary-General of the United Nations was officially notified.

The Rome Statute is the treaty establishing the ICC and was adopted during a conference in Rome on July 17, 1998.

The Philippines ratified the Rome Statute in August 2011 under President Benigno Aquino III and took office on 1 July 1998 November 2011 in force.
