For a man who wrote an entire book on baseball facts and statistics, Ryan Spaeder’s tons of tweets this week were completely « baseless ».

Spaeder, an MLB writer, statistician and analyst, sent a long stream of tweets accusing teams and players in the league of cheating. A day later, he withdraws all of his allegations with an apology.

“I deeply regret everything I’ve said – it turned my life upside down. It was a mistake and I shouldn’t have reported unsubstantiated allegations. I sincerely apologize to all concerned – it shouldn’t have happened and it won’t happen again. Stick to statistics, ”he wrote.

Hours after the MLB made the decision to crack down on illegal sticky substances for jugs, Spaeder posted a since-deleted tweet claiming he would expose the MLB that morning .

« I’ve had enough, I think I’ll come out with everything tomorrow … I’ll sleep on it, » he wrote.

I deeply regret everything I said – it turned my life upside down. It was a mistake and I shouldn’t have reported unsubstantiated allegations. I sincerely apologize to all concerned – it shouldn’t have happened and it won’t happen again. Stick to statistics.

Spaeder woke up to the bizarre decision to make allegations without providing evidence of fraud and began his tweetstorm with, “Everything I’m going to say has been checked by more than one player . I don’t want to burn anyone and I love baseball … I’ve just had enough of these cops – t. ”

He claimed that there were cameras on the outskirts of the Yankee Stadium aimed at detecting the opposing pitcher’s gloves to identify the grip, pointing out the difference between Aaron Judge’s average strokes of 2017. Richter batted .312 / .440 / .725 at home that year and .256 / .404 / .531 away. Similar allegations have been made about the Dodgers by Spaeder, who he alleged an employee was wearing an MLB polo shirt to illegally set up cameras during the 2020 World Series.

In addition, Spaeder accused his « favorite player of all time » Phillies ’Chase Utley of being » the greatest cheat of all time « .

« As crazy as it sounds, I’ve heard that from several players, Adrian Beltre had a buddy with binoculars in the center who waved a bat (undershirt) if he got a little off track in 2017, » wrote Spaeder .

After his series of conspiracies, he was supported by former ESPN employee Darren Rovell and Barstool Sports. Spaeder has now cleared all his allegations.
