New Delhi: Sandesh Jhingan becomes the first Indian national player to play in the top Croatian league Prva HNL after moving from ATK Mohun Bagan to HNK Sibenik.

The 28-year-old became India’s footballer last month Awarded the year, is already in Croatia and saw the home win against Hrvatski Dragovoljac on Sunday.

Jhingan was excited about the opportunity to join HNK Sibenik at Prva HNL in Croatia.

Founded December 1, 1932, HNK Sibenik returned to the first division under new leadership last season. The club finished sixth in the league, just two positions below qualifying for European competitions.

The club is located in Sibenik, the Dalmatian region of Croatia, a city with stunning fortresses that have protected them for centuries and one beautiful Cathedral of St. James, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

« We are very excited to have Sandesh with us. We know he will help us achieve the goals we are us during the season. His stay here will help him grow as a player and as a person, « said HNK Sibenik coach Mario Rosas.

The Spanish coach praised Jhingan’s decision to step out of his comfort zone.

Jhingan began his youth career at St. Stephen’s Football Academy in Chandigarh and took a break in the top division with United Sikkim in 2011.

Sandesh, as a young 21-year-old footballer, became first known during the first edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) when he was named the League’s Emerging Player in 2014. An achievement that helped him secure a place in the Indian senior team debuted in 2015 qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Nepal.

The defender has two ISL runners-up with Kerala Blasters FC, where he has six Years and moved to ATK Mohun Bagan in 2020 after missing out due to injury last season.
