CM – Scorsese’s next Killers of the Flower Moon begins production

Filming of Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited Killers of The Flower Moon has begun in Oklahoma.
Based on David Grann’s 2017 bestseller, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and focuses on the Osage Nation killings in which members of the Native American tribe were murdered one by one after the group was killed by the oil found among them land had become rich. As the death toll rose, the newly created FBI took up the case to uncover a terrifying conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in US history.

In a statement, Scorsese said, “We’re very excited to finally join us to begin production of Killers of the Flower Moon in Oklahoma. Being able to tell this story in the country where these events took place is incredibly important and vital in order for us to be able to accurately represent the time and people. We are grateful to Apple, the Oklahoma Film and Music Bureau, and The Osage Nation, and especially to all of our Osage and cultural advisors preparing for this shoot. We are excited to work with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalize a time in American history that should not be forgotten. « 

According to IndieWire, Scorsese and DiCaprio spent months prior to production meeting with culture leaders from Osage Nation to ensure an accurate representation of the culture and setting. The cast includes Oscar-winning Leonardo DiCaprio and Oscar- Awardees Robert De Niro Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Louis Cancelmi, Tatanka Means, Michael Abbott Jr., Pat Healy, Scott Shepherd and the Grammy Award winning singers -Songwriters Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.

Scorsese is directing the project based on a script by Eric Roth. Scorsese will produce for Apple Studios and Imperative Entertainment in addition to Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions.
